The Edge
“The Edge… there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.”-- Hunter S. Thompson
Hunter went over the edge yesterday. He will be missed. For those of you who don’t know who he was, he was a pioneering journalist, author, mad man, and counter culture icon. If you have seen the movie Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, you have glimpsed him, as it is Thompson the central character is based upon. If you don’t know that this movie was based upon Thompson’s book of the same name, pull your head out.
As is true of all writers, the words make the man, so I thought I would share some of my favorite Hunter S. Thompson quotes.
“America… just a nation of two hundred million used car salesmen with all the money we need to buy guns and no qualms about killing anybody else in the world who tries to make us uncomfortable.”
“I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they’ve always worked for me.”
“I have a theory that the truth is never told during the nine-to-five hours.”
“The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There’s also a negative side.”
“Objective journalism is one of the main reasons American politics has been allowed to be so corrupt for so long.”
There’s so much more to him. If you want to learn more, I suggest you read one of his books, or essays.
