Counterbalance
I’m so sick of people being cruel or unkind to each other. I don’t just mean large acts of cruelty, like the bombing in London, or any other large scale assault, but also how people interact with each other on a daily basis. It is just as easy to be kind as it is to be cruel…easier, in most instances. Everything we do has resonance. If you are an asshole to one person, it almost always effects more people. Why not spread positive energy instead. It seems like it would make life more tolerable in general by balancing things out a bit. You don’t have to do something on a grand scale to make a difference. Hold a door for someone, or smile and say thanks when someone holds a door for you. Compliment someone. Tip a bag boy. Thank someone whose job is generally taken for granted, like a bus driver. Be pleasant to someone in customer service if you have to call them (remember they are generally helping you with a problem that they did not cause). You might even find some of it coming back to you. Karma is a wonderful thing.
In the words of Mother Theresa, “Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.”
That’s my schmaltz for today, take it or leave it.
