Nymphoto is a women’s photography organization based in New York City that’s trying to help level the playing field for women in the visual arts. Women far outnumber men in Fine Arts programs, but men far outnumber women in gallery showings, and they’d like to change that. Through online exhibitions, group shows and collective publications, they have established a support group and a photographic community. In their words, they hope to “mobilize the art world through good old-fashioned girl power.” They’re launching a group exhibition at Sasha Wolf Gallery on May 6 and releasing a corresponding book of artist interviews and photographs by various female photographers to get the ball rolling and the girl power flowing. Below is a quick peek, but you can learn more about the organization, its artists and events at Nymphoto’s site.
